Our Parents

If you arrived at this page looking for a letter that was written to my friend David, I'm very sorry to let you know that regrettably, it's no longer available.

The letter was intended to lend support to our friends in an anonymous way, and my hope was that those who could relate to the experience of having a difficult relationship with their parents during their upbringing would be comforted in knowing that many others share this experience and still feel a strong sense of compassion for their parents. Product Review: Philips Sonicare For Healthy Teeth And Gums

We are blessed with an incredibly kind and highly skilled dentist who recently recommended that we look at using an electric toothbrush. Not the kind where the bristles leisurely swirl around, fuelled by a battery that sits in the handle of the brush. Our dentist strongly encouraged us to use a product made by Philips called the Sonicare FlexCare Plus Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush. Read more

Lasik Surgery: When the Fine Print Applies to You

I WAS vain.

That’s the only way I can explain why I willingly let a doctor cut my corneas with a laser: vanity.

Little did I know when I chose Lasik surgery that I would not end up satisfied like the friends and acquaintances who raved about their post-glasses existence. Instead, my days are complicated, since I am dealing with side effects that are far more bothersome than being unfashionably four-eyed. Read more

Potential Long Term Dangers of LASIK Surgery

Research out of Otago and Oxford Universities in New Zealand indicates that having LASIK surgery can lead to permanent problems with vision over the long term.

More specifically, it appears that having laser surgery for near-sightedness (myopia) may lead to excessive glare, haze, and blurred vision as people enter their 7th and 8th decades of life. Read more

Five Reasons To Eat Navy Beans

If you're keen on limiting dairy and gluten intake, another excellent choice is the nutrient-dense navy bean. How to Gain Healthy Weight

If you are underweight for your body structure, it's possible that you could experience significant improvement in your health by gaining and maintaining healthy weight.

Estrogen Dominance: Is It Affecting Your Health?

When researchers from l'Universite de Montreal recently tested the waters of the St. Lawrence River downstream of Montreal, they discovered levels of estrogen 90 times the normal rate. These estrogens were both the natural type (estradiol) occurring in all women and men, and synthetic estrogens, like the ones found in some contraceptive medications and medications used in hormone replacement therapy. It Gets Better

Heartfelt thanks to those who are doing all they can to prevent more suicides due to bullying of gays, lesbians, and all others who are treated inhumanely because of differences.

I could write for days on this, but instead, I ask that you watch the following videos and share them with those who may need support. Read more

More On Protecting Yourself Against UV Rays

In a post on gawking in last week's newsletter, I mentioned some of the measures that I take to protect my skin from burning during the hottest of summer days.

I hope that I didn't contribute to any sun phobias that might be out there. In case it wasn't clear in my post, I am extra careful in guarding my skin because I have many areas of depigmentation which burn very quickly without some form of protection. Read more

Dangers of Drinking Contests

Last week, a man in Spain died shortly after guzzling 6 liters (1.58 gallons) of beer in about 20 minutes during a beer drinking competition.

Shortly after winning the contest, Joaquín Alcaraz Gracia began vomiting and went into cardiac arrest. He was taken to a local hospital, where he passed away. Read more
