Bodacious Black Bean Dip Recipe

Looking for a true super food that is packed with health-promoting nutrients, and is also readily available in just about all grocery stores? Look no further than the humble black bean, often referred to as the turtle bean.

Black beans are loaded with folate (folic acid), manganese, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, and vitamin B1.

Black beans are also an excellent source of protein, including an amino acid called tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that is helpful for promoting restful sleep and preventing depression.

Enjoy all the health benefits of black beans with the following bodacious black bean dip recipe:

Ingredients:

1 14-ounce can of black beans, drained and thoroughly rinsed
1/2 cup mild tomato salsa
2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
Sea salt and pepper, to taste
More cilantro for garnish

Directions:

Combine black beans, salsa, lemon or lime juice, chopped cilantro, and cumin in a food processor and process until smooth. Season with sea salt and pepper.

Serve with wedges of whole grain pitas with avocado slices on the side. Garnish the black bean dip with cilantro.

This delicious black bean dip can be stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.

This is tasty -- thanks for sharing the recipe. I added olive oil since I didn't have any avocado and left out the black pepper because the chiles in my homemade salsa already provide enough spiciness. I held back on blending it too long in order to create a slightly chunky texture. I wish I could keep cilantro alive this time of year -- that would have made it even better. I'm about to enjoy this dip with a round of celery sticks.

Looks great!
