The Ideal Way To Do Push-Ups
To be optimally mobile and agile, it's helpful to treat every exercise as an opportunity to strengthen your core - doing so will improve movement and balance in all planes and decrease risk of injury.
When doing push-ups, focus on pushing your hands through the ground so that at the top of each push-up, your shoulder blades separate and move forward (protract). At the same time, focus on tightening your abdominal muscles and holding this tightened position at the top of your push-up for a brief moment before lowering yourself down.
The slower you move through push-ups, the greater benefit you will experience in core and upper body strength.
It's always a good idea to warm up your wrists before doing any pushing exercises. Our wrist mobility routine can be found here:
For those who have trouble doing exercises on the floor, know that push-ups and wrist mobility work can be done while standing and leaning into a stable wall.
