4 Most Common Diseases & How to Prevent Them
When I first meet people and they get to know what I do for work, I'm often asked to suggest a few things they can do to stay healthy.
In broad terms, the chronic degenerative diseases that most people in today's world eventually die from are:
Diabetes
Heart Disease
Cancer
Alzheimer's (and other neuro-degenerative diseases)
The sum of the highest quality medical literature I have read over the years on how to prevent these four classes of disease is this:
1. Avoid or minimize intake of sugar - this includes refined carbohydrates that we don't need to physically get through our days.
2. Do some form of exercise daily, including anything that encourages development or maintenance of strength, particularly leg and grip strength.
3. Do everything possible to get deep, restful sleep - being physically active during the day and creating a dark sleeping environment are the two most important ways of achieving this.
4. Prioritize healthy relationships, beginning with oneself. If we often find ourselves feeling angry, sad, or lonely, there is work to be done.
The diseases listed above develop over decades. Today, it's not uncommon to see soft plaques and calcification of blood vessels in people in their late teens and early 20s.
The good news is that our self-healing mechanisms are always at work to restore our health at a cellular level. The reason why many of us don't heal and continue to have our conditions worsen is that our daily choices are working against our self-healing design.
When we minimize sugar intake, exercise daily, prioritize restful sleep, and work at having beautiful relationships, we allow our innate healing capacity to shine.
