Eating Broccoli May Help Prevent Bladder Cancer

For those of you who have a history of urinary tract infections, bladder infections, and/or a family history of bladder cancer, it may be wise to make broccoli a staple in your diet.

Researchers at Ohio State University report that broccoli contains phytochemicals called glucosinolates, which turn into compounds called isothiocyanates, which in turn, have been shown to slow down the growth of bladder cancer cells in laboratory experiments.

Glucosinolates are just one of many phytochemicals in broccoli that have been shown to have a health promoting effect on living cells.

The key is to optimally assimilate the nutrients in broccoli into your blood so that they can reach your cells. Be sure to chew broccoli to liquid before swallowing, and consider steaming or lightly cooking with olive oil if your digestive tract isn't able to handle raw broccoli.
