This one was more difficult than I had anticipated.

The answer is: James L. Brooks.

Only one reader, Roberta Daly of Castletown, New York, correctly identified Mr. Brooks.

James L. Brooks is the writer and director of classic romantic comedies like "Terms of Endearment," "Broadcast News," "As Good As It Gets," and "Spanglish."

He makes a new movie once every four to five years, and because of his track record of creating Oscar-worthy films with dialogue that's so delicious you can eat it, my understanding is that most actors in Hollywood consider it a great honor to receive a call from Mr. Brooks to star in one of his films.

I created this contest question just after discovering that his latest effort will star Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson, and is set to start filming this summer. I'm a huge fan of Mr. Brooks, and will most definitely take my wife to see this new film when it comes out.
