Heartfelt Thanks
Just under two weeks ago, I sent out a note about our client care manager Rebecca losing her oldest daughter who was just 24 and left behind two young children.
I know that Rebecca was deeply moved by the generosity and thoughtfulness of those who contributed to a fund to help with funeral expenses as well as the care of her two grandchildren in the months ahead. With the funds raised, Rebecca was able to arrange a final resting place and services for her daughter.
Beyond being immensely grateful for the outpouring of support that came from our readership, it was quite an emotional experience to see donations and notes of support from people I haven't been in touch with for many years, including some old friends and longtime readers who have been receiving this newsletter since the early 2000s.
As I reflected on the many individuals who could feel or imagine the shock and pain that Rebecca's family was experiencing and offered support, it occurred to me that acts of compassion can be far more powerful than unkind behaviour that tends to dominate headlines. I have many of you to thank for reminding me that goodness is all around us, though it's often unseen because goodness typically comes bundled with decency and humility.
One last thank you to all those who reached out to Rebecca - I know that she, her grandchildren, and some of her other family members will not forget the benevolence that unexpectedly descended upon them during a most difficult time.
